Auto gross margins have compressed from ~30% peak to the mid-teens as global EV competition (BYD, Chinese OEMs, Hyundai, GM Ultium) floods the market. FSD has repeatedly missed timelines since 2016, and any regulatory setback would derail the Robotaxi thesis. The stock trades at 60–80x forward earnings — a valuation only justified if the AI/robotics bets pay off.
